Now and Forever!

Keeping your spiritual edge sharp.

In order to keep our edge sharp, may I suggest taking some adult education courses this September? Bible study might not earn Continuing Education Units but the personal benefits are outstanding. Your church probably offers opportunities for Bible study and fellowship. Find out what’s going on and take advantage of every opportunity that you can.

“Instruct a wise man and he will be wiser still; teach a righteous man and he will add to his learning. The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, and knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.” (Proverbs 9:9-10)

Maybe you are running ahead: “Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.” (2 John 1:9)

Falling behind? “Since we live by the Spirit, let us keep in step with the Spirit.” (Galatians 5:25)

Think you’re too old? Titus 2:2 says, “Teach the older men to be temperate, worthy of respect, self-controlled, and sound in faith, in love and in endurance”

Tired and burdened? Jesus says, “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28-30)

Already know a few things? “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.” (Colossians 2:6-7)

Our family, church, and employers will reap the benefits from our spiritual growth. God wants us to learn, grow, change, and become more like His Son, Jesus.

I must decide to put in the time and effort in order to learn. I hope you will, too.

Let this be our prayer: (Psalm 25, selected)

“Show me Your ways, O LORD, teach me Your paths; guide me in Your truth and teach me, for You are God my Savior, and my hope is in You all day long.

Good and upright is the LORD;
therefore He instructs sinners in His ways.
He guides the humble in what is right
and teaches them His way.

Who, then, is the man that fears the LORD?
He will instruct him in the way chosen for him.
The LORD confides in those who fear Him;
He makes His covenant known to them.”

When our children go back to school this September, let’s improve ourselves also and learn of God.
