Twelve Basic Principles to Teach a Child

1. To know Christ.  John 1:12

2. To glorify God. (His body God’s temple)
I Corinthians 6:19-20

3. He is God’s unique creation. (What has evolution done for anyone’s self-image?)
Psalm 139:13-16

4. God loves and reproves him.  Proverbs 3:12

5. Parents love and correct him. (Don’t just scream; Demeaning doesn’t show love)
Proverbs 13:24

6. Forgiveness. (They will learn about forgiveness from us)
I John 1:9

7. Accountable for own actions. (Let child take responsibility)
Romans 13:1-2

8. Obedience to authority.  Romans 13:1-2

9. To be appreciative.
I Thessalonians 5:18

10. To speak kindly.  Ephesians 4:31-32

11. To learn the Word of God.  Psalm 119:11  (Well, really, read all of Psalm 119.)

12. Teach him to pray. Hebrews 4:16

Note – Our homes should be designed to teach these principles. Everything we
do is either a help or a hindrance. It shouldn’t be a crash course at the
end of his years at home.
