June 30, 2006Health & Maturity: Improving Your Life
Improving Your Love Life: Read First Corinthians 13, seriously, read it every day for a week and it will improve your love life. It’s only 13 verses and you can read it in less than one minute, but don’t try to rush through it. Give it a chance to sink in. Think about what you are reading. Personally, I feel crushed when I read such seemingly unattainable ideals yet I am attracted to them since they are good. It seems easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than I fulfill “Love is patient, love is kind.†But Jesus looks at me and says, “With man this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.â€Â So I trust Him to perform His work in me. I pray, “God, make me a loving husband and father.†Here are other useful tips: First, don’t believe the lies of Satan which say that you don’t know how to read God’s Word, can’t, don’t have time, can’t understand it, or that it won’t work. Satan is the destroyer, the deceiver. Rather, believe God Who is faithful, (1 Cor. 1:9), His promises true, (2 Cor. 1:20, Ps. 119:40), His Word, powerful. (Heb. 4:12). God is the Redeemer, Savior, Lord. Trust in Him. You can read God’s Word, understand it, have the time, and it will work according to His will. Improving Your Wisdom: Read God’s Word daily. (Rom. 12:2, Col. 2:8, Eph 4:20-24, Matt. 4:4, Jas. 1:5-9, Proverbs 1-31—one a day repeating every month, Gen. 1:1–Rev. 22:21) We have “bought in†to too many lies over the course of our lives. We need our minds renewed by God’s Word. There are many wonderful books, but none compare with God’s Word. Improving Your Success: Meditate on God’s Word. Psalm One boldly states that if one does that then, “Whatever he does prospers.†It’s easy to do. Write out a verse on a 3 by 5 card and carry it with you. Tape it on your dashboard, on top of your computer monitor, over the sink, on the bathroom mirror. Read it frequently throughout the day for a week. It will change your life. Improving Your Faith: Listen to God’s Word. Come to church Sundays and as often as possible. Join a small group fellowship. Attend an adult Bible fellowship. Increase your faith. (Rom. 10:17, Heb. 10:25) Improving Your Peace: Pray, and trust in God. (Isa. 26:3, Phil. 4:6-7, Rom. 8:6, Rom. 15:13, Matt. 7:24-29, Jer. 17:5-9) Seeking security in anything other than God Himself leads to worry and anxiety. Build upon no other foundation than the rock of Jesus Christ. (1 Cor. 3:10-15, Luke 6:46-49) We can learn many new things, become better dads, moms, spouses, and become more like Christ. We make it difficult for ourselves when we think that we can’t do the things that God says we can do in Him. God’s Word has answers but we are usually unwilling to even give God a fair chance. “For no matter how many promises God has made, they are “Yes†in Christ.â€(2 Cor. 1:18-22) Can it be this simple? Have you seriously given it a try? God doesn’t make idle promises. It is we who need to change, not God. Test the promises in God’s Word and be amazed at the results! No matter where you are in your spiritual journey, read God’s Word and be transformed! Then, glorify God with thankfulness and share your testimony of God’s faithfulness in your life.
